Character Design for Graphic Novels/Video Games

$180.00
sold out

For ages 10-15

This class is for the kid who is always drawing and sketching original characters and worlds, itching to be incorporated into a graphic novel, video game, or animated show.

In this class, we will cover the process of successfully translating students’ ideas into a finished character design sheet, ready to share with an audience or place into a portfolio. From animated shows to graphic novels and video games, we will discuss what design considerations are made for characters in different media. By the end of the course every child will have a tangible reference image of their original character, ready to take into the next steps of their creative journey.

This will be a hands-on artist-led class where we will spend each week covering part of the character design process, from research and brainstorming all the way to final rendering of a character. We will cover how to create and build an artist portfolio. This class will also utilize discussion and presentation sessions, helping even the shyest artist gain the confidence needed to share their ideas. Each week will build upon the last, with time for independent work and feedback each session.

As an intro class, no prior experience in graphics or character design is necessary. Kids will be able to use their designs in future classes on graphic novels, game design, or animation at Wilder Arts.

As always, we take our students, families’, and staff’s health and safety seriously. All participants will have to wear masks in the studio, regardless of vaccination status. We will open windows (bring layers!) and have three air purifiers throughout the studio. All of our staff is fully vaccinated.

Wednesdays 5:30pm to 7:30pm | December 1, 2021 to January 12, 2021 (This is a six-week class. No class on December 29th.)
